Message from Doreen:
Dear Friends,
Having spent my nursing career in the hospital witnessing patients die in ways they would not have chosen, I decided to dive deeply into the subject of death and dying by becoming an end of life doula. As a result, I have successfully completed a Certification program with Doulagivers International and began working as an end of life doula. These experiences have changed my familiar perspective from a medical death to a non-medical or natural death.
The topic of death and dying is wide and deep. I want to bring it to a state of normal conversation by offering a series of in person presentations. This event, that all of us will experience someday, is one of the least talked about especially within our own families. My hope is that my course will provide attendees with an enhanced understanding of death in our culture and how we individually can plan and prepare for our own death and the death of those we love.
For our presentation in March, Mary Curtin, a fellow retired registered nurse and devotee of creating a positive end of life, will be our presenter. Mary will share with us the In's and Out's of Hospice. From the historical perspective to the in-home details of what hospice does and doesn't have to offer.
Hospice care is not about giving up hope, it's about shifting the focus to what's most important - spending time with loved ones and making the most of every day. This information may help you or someone you know die with greater ease and comfort.
Not only is March 14 our hospice discussion, it is also Pi Day so I will be providing pie for the group. There's a superstition that if you talk about death you invite it closer, but the consumption of food is a life-sustaining process. Pie is food so my intention is for it to help normalize the topic of death, and who doesn't love pie?
Thank you again for the full attendance at these presentations. When the room is at capacity it is very reassuring that the work that we are doing is very much needed. With that said please RSVP to this email so I know how many people to expect.
Date: March 14, 2023
Time: 4-5:30pm
Location: No Hands Coworking 550 High St. Suite #107 Auburn
Cost: $10 (proceeds go to No Hands Coworking and Full Circle of Living and Dying)
I have partnered with Full Circle of Living and Dying in Nevada County and No Hands Coworking in Auburn to offer these presentations, which are scheduled for the second Tuesday of the month from January through June.
Your reservation is imperative as seating is limited. RSVP/Register by emailing [email protected]
Please RSVP by email (last month filled up with 6 on the waiting list!)
