As part of the mission of Full Circle of Living and Dying:
To educate and bring to light all End-of-Life options.
Our End-of-Life Doulas offer guidance and support for those with a terminal diagnosis who are considering using California's End-of-Life Option Act. We are available to answer your questions: (916)397-5443
The following are options, not recommendations.
The End of Life Option Act took effect on June 9, 2016. Under the law, terminally ill, mentally capable adults with 6 months or less to live are able to request aid-in-dying medication which they can then choose to self-ingest. The law gives eligible patients the option of medical aid in dying to peacefully end their suffering.
Important: The End-of-Life Option Act was passed with a 10-year sunset. If the law is not reauthorized before January 1, 2026, it will expire.
Currently, there is a bill in California (SB 380), which will remove the sunset provision (reauthorizing the law permanently in California) and remove unnecessary barriers to accessing the law. Here is a fact sheet and here is a summary about the bill.
It was very difficult to pass the End of Life Option Act in California. Below are a few ways you can help get SB 380 passed if you are interested:
