What is a Cuddle Cot?
It is a sensitive and often avoided topic, but it is a real thing that happens in our community. Families lose their babies during pregnancy, birth and after. Grieving the loss of a baby is extremely difficult. The Cuddle Cot eases the time and helps to create memories of love and time spent with people's sweet babies they have lost.
Bereaved parents all over the US and world have said how having time with their babies in their homes was crucial to healing the pain of loss. For more information, text or call: Mackenzie Rose Leeke LM, CPM (530) 277-2043 or Akhila Murphy End-of-Life Doula (916) 397-5443 |
Cuddle Cot Available in Nevada CountyMarch 2021 Fundraiser
A Cuddle Cot is a portable cooling device that allows families to have their deceased baby in their homes with them as long as they need. Nevada County Midwives Collective with Full Circle of Living and Dying sponsored a fundraiser to purchase a Cuddle Cot to have here in our community for families to borrow and take to their homes. Currently, Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital has a Caring Cradle, a commercial-size cooling unit located in the neonatal center for use in the hospital, but when families are ready to go home and not ready to say goodbye to their babies, a community Cuddle Cot would give them the precious time that they need. They will be able to spend as much time as they want with their baby before burial or cremation. Extra time with the baby resting at home allows siblings, grandparents, friends, and other family members to meet the baby, support each other, and grieve together. The fundraiser was fully funded within a few days! We felt such gratitude for all who donated! The contributions made it possible for families and loved ones in the community to spend the needed time at home with their baby and to grieve with family and their caring community. |
